Each year in Australia countless bicycles are dumped in waterways or buried in landfill adding to mounting metal contamination and capacity concerns. Little acknowledgement is given to the quality of design, innovative components and potential for reinvention. Not everyone has the foresight or available wall space to create a spoke-ridden artwork such as this Dutch delight...

Thank goodness Melbourne design duo Tread and Pedals is rescuing bicycles and reusing and recycling them. Chains, cogs, cassettes and wheels are whipped into cufflinks and clocks and trimmed with upcycled upholstery fabric.
